In my “Distortion -relation” series, I used the photographs of my parents’ elders and relatives, manually distorting them using a scanner. The reason I did this is that photographs only capture a single moment in time, immortalizing just that. However, they don’t tell us what happened before or after the moment they depict. In that sense, they don’t fully reflect reality. By distorting these images, my aim was to also distort the memories, disconnecting them from the moments that precede or follow. Our memories often remain in our minds as the version we choose to recall. I wanted to visually alter those memories, setting them free from the limitations of a single captured moment.
